days go by

I am not
blowing out any more candles.
My dreams
have aged more than me.
Their skin,
wrinkled and pale.
Their hair,
gray.
I fear
my dreams are going to die
before me
and I won’t have anywhere to bury them.
I will be left
cradling them
like a stillborn child.
